Adelaide Cellar Door provides an electronic “Farmers Market” for small winemakers and grape growers. Our producers ship the wine purchased on our site direct to you from their cellar door. The significant savings can be passed onto our customers. Our wines are excellent value.
All the wines in our range are independently assessed for price and quality before we list them. We guarantee all the wine on the site. You are actually buying from the winery so their reputation is on the line with every case.
Adelaide Cellar Door is a people business as well as a wine business. We use the internet rather than a shop front but we pride ourselves on our service and ability to add value to our wines with excellent knowledge and personal relationships with our suppliers and customers.
ADELAIDE CELLAR DOOR IN SOUTH EAST ASIA
It is often difficult to get interesting South Australian wine in parts of Australia but in booming South East Asian cities it is nigh on impossible.
In 2006 we established Adelaide Cellar Door in Hong Kong. This has opened up a new world of wine to wine lovers in HK who previously only had access to generic Australian wines at reasonable prices. We are now the leading Australian online wine retailer in Hong Kong.
In 2007 we started marketing wine into Macau where much of the local wine is from Portugal. This move is now giving our European competitors some healthy competition.
In July 2007 we started operating in Guangzhou in Southern China. Guangzhou is a city of over 14 million people. Wine is a relatively new phenomena in China, even in the big prosperous cities. Adelaide Cellar Door allows customers to buy wine from small South Australian producers as if they were in Adelaide – another small step in making the world a smaller place.
We simply ship the wine and store it at the destination market and then draw down on these stocks as people order the wine online.
FRANCHISE OPERATIONS
To enable the business to expand and to foster the local feel of our business, we have developed a joint venture with a franchisee to represent us in China.
This is an excellent model upon which to develop Adelaide Cellar Door into other Asian markets. We get a committed local partner and our partners get a direct link to our growers and winemakers in Australia. There are no wholesalers involved and our international franchisees become part of the team – just as it should be.
